Electric demand response and bounded rationality: mean-field control for large populations of heterogeneous bounded-rational agents

چکیده

The increased penetration of renewable energy sources into existing power systems induces challenges in supply–demand balancing. Demand-side flexibility is seen as an option to accommodate variability and limited predictability from generation. Heat pumps at residential level, if well coordinated, can be one those sources. complexity involved high though, since their coordinated operation combines control, population effects the fact agents may actually not behave rational decision-makers. We describe here a control framework that accounts for aspects altogether. Decentralized model predictive large populations heterogeneous employed. As cost minimized affected by behaviour whole through electricity price, decentralized re-thought mean-field game. Existence uniqueness Nash equilibrium are discussed while Picard–Banach algorithm used solution approach. It extended case bounded-rational agents. impact on system dynamics modelling bounded illustrated numerical simulations. This article part theme issue ‘The mathematics systems’.

Regions of Rationality: Maps for Bounded Agents

An important problem faced by boundedly rational agents is to identify “regions of rationality,” i.e., the areas for which simple, boundedly rational models are and are not effective. To map the contours of such regions, we derive probabilities that models identify the best of m alternatives (m > 2) characterized by k attributes (k > 1). The models include a single variable (lexicographic), var...

SOS FOR BOUNDED RATIONALITY SOS for bounded rationality

In the gambling foundation of probability theory, rationality requires that a subject should always (never) find desirable all nonnegative (negative) gambles, because no matter the result of the experiment the subject never (always) decreases her money. Evaluating the nonnegativity of a gamble in infinite spaces is a difficult task. In fact, even if we restrict the gambles to be polynomials in ...

Modeling bounded rationality of agents during interactions

In this paper, we propose that bounded rationality of another agent be modeled as errors the agent is making while deciding on its action. We are motivated by the work on quantal response equilibria in behavioral game theory which uses Nash equilibria as the solution concept. In contrast, we use decision-theoretic maximization of expected utility. Quantal response assumes that a decision maker ...

Modeling Agents through Bounded Rationality Theories

Effectively modeling an agent’s cognitive model is an important problem in many domains. In this paper, we explore the agents people wrote to operate within optimization problems. We claim that the overwhelming majority of these agents used strategies based on bounded rationality, even when optimal solutions could have been implemented. Particularly, we believe that many elements from Aspiratio...

Strategic Interactions Among Agents with Bounded Rationality

Interactions among agents are complicated since in order to make the best decisions, each agent has to take into account not only the strategy used by other agents but also how those strategies might change in the future (and what causes these changes). The objective of my work will be to develop a framework for learning agent models (opponent or teammate) more accurately and with less interact...
